Our Young Grower of the Year for 2026 is a qualified horticulturalist with more than five years of experience across both retail and production nurseries. She brings with her a well-rounded perspective, strong technical ability, and an impressive understanding of both the commercial and operational aspects of our industry.
She began her journey with her current company as a Junior Horticulturalist, overseeing production from plug planting through to finished product. After only six months, she moved into propagation, where she confidently challenged existing methods and introduced improvements that significantly increased cutting take rates and overall plant quality.
Through dedication, initiative, and a passion for learning, she rapidly developed both her technical expertise and leadership abilities.
Eighteen months ago, she was appointed Nursery Manager, taking responsibility for all production, propagation, fertigation, growing media, and production structures. With this appointment, her team expanded almost overnight from 10 to 60 staff members — a challenge she embraced with remarkable professionalism, composure, and leadership.
She has also played an important role in mentoring three intern students annually, ensuring they leave with valuable practical experience and industry knowledge. Through strategic internal development and promotion, she has built a strong supervisory team and successfully fostered a culture of accountability and growth.
Her attention to detail, collaborative approach, and contribution to sales planning, new plant introductions, and product trials continue to strengthen both production efficiencies and commercial success within the business.
She is an outstanding leader, a passionate horticulturalist, and an invaluable asset to her team. She is truly deserving of this recognition.
Ladies and gentlemen, the Young Grower of the Year for 2026 is Jenny Liedtke from Shadowlands Wholesale Nursery.
